Digital - Tactile - Digital

This project was for my Digital Imaging class. We were given a quote and we had to think conceptually for this piece about it. I had gotten a quote from the Lord of the Rings. I worked with a dip pen first for the words and the took it into Photoshop to edit the colors. From there I printed it out on good paper and went tactile with it. I used coffee, paint, mud, fire, and watercolors to manipulate the paper and some of the objects I used for the piece. I got to rip apart two whole shoes for this project. My concept was it's dangerous walking through life because you don't know what you will get into. I applied this to an analogy with shoes. If you don't take care of your shoes and don't "keep your feet" as the quote says, you will find yourself with very dirty and messed up shoes. I went two separate directions with this idea to represent two different walks of life but the same result of dirty and chaos shoes. Once I flushed this concept out I got to working with actual shoes. Men's size 10 bright red Nike shoes. I tore them up and found pieces to work with and the fabric to paint on or get dirty in mud. I used leaves and flowers, Easter grass, the inside of the heal, the size tag, thread, the size instructions for the shoe makers and the bottom of the shoe for the shoe prints on this piece. After assembling these I took pictures and went back into Photoshop to add outside elements like the red shoe print, change the colors, darken and lighten some parts. In the end it resulted into a very cool idea that I think I flushed out very well as I had envisioned.
